- Risk of Discoloration: Sunscreen ingredients such as Avobenzone (Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane) and Octocrylene cause rapid discoloration of hair extensions, turning them pink or orange within an hour of exposure.
- Recommendation: Opt for natural zinc-based sunscreen below:
- Prohibited Actions: Do not bleach, perm, or chemically straighten the extensions to avoid severe damage.
Post-Application Wait: Do not wet hair for 48-72 hours after application.
Regular Maintenance: Visit a professional every 4-6 weeks for removal/re-application (Maintenance).
- Brushing: Brush three times daily with a soft bristle brush. Start brushing from the ends and work your way up to prevent tugging.
- Frequency: Wash your hair no more than 2-3 times a week.
- Shampoo & Conditioner: Use sulfate-free and paraben-free products. Avoid products containing protein, keratin, or biotin.
- Heat Limitation: Use heat tools at a maximum of 180 degrees Celsius. Always use a heat protectant.
- Finishing Products: Apply Moroccan or argan oil to mid-lengths and ends after styling.
- Moisturizing: Regularly use masks or treatments to provide moisture. Choose salon-quality products that align with extension care guidelines.
- Prevention: Use a loose braid or low ponytail to minimize tangling.
- Moisture Control: Ensure hair is dry before bedtime to prevent mold and bond degradation.
- Protection Strategy: Avoid chlorine and saltwater. If swimming is necessary, apply a leave-in conditioner and braid hair before swimming.
- Aftercare: Rinse, shampoo, and treat hair immediately after swimming to restore moisture.
